Two Down... #13 & #23.

#13 Clean out closets & drawers.

I can't remember exactly when, but one day I decided that I was tired of sifting through socks and "drawls" I never wear, so I decided that day was a good day to clean'em out. I grabbed a Hefty bag and took care of bih-ness, filling it with brand new dress socks, sparkling white crew socks, boxers that hadn't seen anything but the back of the drawer in years, undershirts & shorts.

Once that task was done, I headed towards the closet... I-ight, if any of you know me, you know I have entirely too many clothes, everything from high school crap (I graduated over 10 years ago) to some really nice dress clothes. So this task was gonna take a bit of control, let go of old crap, and yes even a few T's that haven't quite fit well in years and probably hadn't been worn for years longer. At last count I had, I don't know, easily over 60 T-shirts. That's ridiculous, seeing as only 10 or so are in regular rotation. Anyhow, I hit the closet with the furry of a newborn's stuffed animal. Hey, it's hard to let go, who knows when I'll want to that Crockett High School T-shirt again (Note: I didn't even attend that school) haha. I'm not a hoarder or anything, far from it but who knows maybe my son will want one of those random t's someday. In the end, I did get rid of a good amount of T's, some dress shirts, dress pants, shorts and shoes. DONE!

Which leads to...

#23 Donate clothes I no longer wear.

With a FULL Hefty loaded in my ride, I rolled into a Goodwill and donated my goods. I will always be a supporter of thrifting and thrift stores, as a child a lot of my family's clothes were from donated goods and even to this day I still enjoy going to thrift shops in search of hidden treasures. I know someone out there is enjoying some new duds as much as I did and that makes me happy.

For those of you keeping score that is now $10 more added to the pot for these accomplishments (see: MY LIST #31).

The Drew Rome

So some of my family are lucky to be traveling to the East to visit my sister during the Thanksgiving holiday. Although I was able to go for the first time this past spring, I wouldn't argue going back. I hope the family enjoys the vacation and the holiday.

For this post I decided to go back to putting kits together and hooking my brother up with a couple of looks that would be good for sight-seeing, family pictures and relaxing around the house, all the while looking top notch. Look N°1 is more casual and comfortable which is perfect for the long-walking sight seeing tours and also durable enough in case he has to catch a diving fade in the end zone. Look N°2, while still casual and comfortable is more of a cleaner look, so make sure to get yer-hur-did, cause pictures will be had. The looks are great for my brother because they're true his laid back casual style but still separate him from the other folks on holiday in their stretchy pants and favorite team sweaters.

Custom Nike Air Max 90 iD

The other day The Wife and I were out with Lil Money just wasting time; we stopped into a sporting goods store, played with merch and even tried on some shoes. We didn't have any real intentions of spending money or even searching for shoes. I tried on a couple of vibrant colored running shoes, the usual, and then I tried on some shoes with a neon green lining and yessir I like it. That shouldn't be a surprise cause I do get down on colorful shoes sometimes. I’m drawn to them.

In high school I had this random saying or fixed response as an answer to questions I didn't know. For example, if I were asked "what are your thoughts on the efforts to increase the population of the critically endangered Gilbert's Potoroo?" My response would be, a light shrug of the shoulders teamed with a bit of a tilt to my head and "I like shoes." It was silly, out of context, got laughs and even served as a pretty good deterrent or distraction. While I usually kept that response up my sleeve, it was true, I really did like shoes; all kinds, dress, boots, sneakers, running, etc. Shit, I remember being a kid running all over the neighborhood, beating up my shoes but I don’t remember going to the store, picking out & buying new a pair, it just didn’t happen. And like a lot of people, you like/want what you don’t have.

I’m older now and “I like shoes”… I live a comfortable life with a good job and great family, there aren’t many things that I need that I can’t provide myself but there are still a lot of wants. Haha. And I now want some Custom Nike Air Max 90 iD’s. Nike has been doing custom kicks for a while now and I’ve spent many on-the-clock hours (okay, not hours but time) customizing different types of shoes. Usually I design a shoe, save it and keep it for a while, then get bored with it or realize that I don’t really need to spend the money on a pair shoes. Be a lot cooler if I did. But after hooking up a pair of Air Max’s and seeing the neon green on my feet I think I really want to get a pair of these. With Sweet & Bang as my custom ID, one on each shoe.

Oh yeah, check out this MAX100 book project by Matt Stevens. I found out about this project at the end of May and have been keeping up with it’s progression to fruition for a while now. If I had extra coin to donate, first I’d score my custom AM90’s then I’d donate to this guy’s cool ass project.

Perfect Timing Nes...

As I said in this post, my sister, Nes, hooked me up with a pair of shades and some shaving cream... Well as you can see in the picture below, I haven't used the cream but I will begin using those aviators tomorrow. This evening while out and about with Young Money and my mom my other sunglasses snapped in my damn pocket. The f*ck?! That's the second time that's happened to me this season already. Damn! So, like the title reads; Perfect Timing Nes. Thanks again.

Killer Stache Bro!

Washington Nationals

Woo hoo, I like free stuff & gifts.

As you may or may not know The Wife and I along with Young Money took a trip to the East Coast in April. We hit up Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and finally New York.

While in D.C. area I spent some time looking for a Washington Nationals shirt, you know as “souvenir” of my trip. My search was unsuccessful, not that I didn’t see a lot of National’s tees, I did I just didn’t like the styles that much. I had an image in my head of what I wanted it to look like but didn’t really know if I’d actually find something that looked like it. I never did find that tee, boo.

We left for New York shirtless (well, not completely shirtless, just Washington Nationals shirtless). Now that I’m thinking of it, I should have gotten a Yankees Tee shirt, doh! Yeah, that’s a good idea, I should get a baseball Tee from every City/State that I visit, I’m not much for souvenir shops or trinkets so that would be more fitting. [Note to self, look online and order an Orioles and Yankees Tee. It still counts].

So we finally got home and “settled”. I talked to my sister (who we visited in VA) and she told me she found a shirt for me. Awesome! After that what did I do? Like a kid snooping around the house for hidden birthday and Christmas gifts I checked the mail daily. And just like an anxious child I even checked it the day after she told me she got the shirt… Even after she said that she needed to find a box to send it in. Day after day I checked the mail, only to be upset by bills and junk mail addressed to The Wife. Where is my package, I’m too excited to have to wait to find out what my new shirt looks like?

Yesterday The Wife met me at work as usual for the ol switcheroo of Young Money from her “shift” to mine. What’s that you’re carrying? Is that a package? Is it addressed to me? Woo hoo! I was so excited, I even tried to open it in the car, but my sister used some sort of industrial super sticky adhesive tape and rip proof paper. I still had to wait. I finally got home left the kid in the car took the package in an emptied it’s contents onto the floor… Kidding, I didn’t empty it on the floor, oh wait, I was kidding about leaving the kid in the car. Haha.

So I now have an awesome new Tee, it’s not what I had in mind but it’s as cooler than the other side of the pillow. The fit's great and the design is pretty cool. Oh and she even included some Aviator shades, I can always use those and some shaving cream… I think she’s trying to give me a hint (more on that in another post).

Thank you very much to my sister, Nes and her husband.

The AWESOME shirt my sister got me.

I just started looking but so far I think I like these two...

This one is pretty cool too.

President's Day Kit

A Federal holiday... Everyone is off in observance of Washington's Birthday, everyone but me. And that's cause I work in government, so while you read this on your day off -Or a day late- I'm here on the grind... uhhh... Working?

Anyhow, I put a look together that is inspired by presidents and loosely what that means to me. War. I kid, well kinda. The look I'm going for is military inspired, and there we go... Most folks who work in a "casual-workwear" environment probably don't even know that the Chino's they wear everyday were originally standard issue for the British and or French military. A little history for you kids, haha.  I decided to use that as my foundation and went from there. Check it out.

I especially love these Buckshot Brogues.

Purple Daze

Is it spring yet? Not quite but around here it's starting to feel like it and these sunny Texas breezes have me thinking about fun in the sun. Right now, spring feels like purple.

Chris-P Kit N°1 & 2

I have this friend Chris-P of the couple "Chandy" (Chris & Brandy) and recently he's been getting into my gear telling me how he digs my style. Cool. While I do dress to impress -I take that as a great compliment- I really do it for myself, when I look good I feel good and I try to feel good every day.

I figured since he’s feelin' my style I’d hook him up with a kit of his own… Granted I am not buying him any of this gear (I wish), I’m just putting a look together for him, in this case two looks, Day & Night.

Chris-P is a bigger guy than myself, which is no surprise most everyone I know is bigger than me. Anyhow, due to his figure & current style I think he’d be able to rock more of a street-style look than myself. When I think of street-style the first thing to come to mind is footwear. I think street-style offers itself to a more urban and playful side of footwear. Something like Red Wings, while many men wear Red Wings to the daily grind I think the styling is also suitable for urban wear.

Check it out:

N°1 - Day

N°2 - Night

While both looks are relatively the same, each one offers a different opportunity in occasion. The first look is a little more comfortable and playful, ready for the day ahead, with it's color combination and skull tie. The second look is much more cleaner, ready for a night out, but it retains that edge with the eye-catching skull and crossbones tie. I don't know if I could pull these shoes off but I'd definitely get down on both N°1 & N°2.

Fifty

That’s how many T-Shirts I pulled out of my closet and have about half that in T’s still hung up. With the passing of another year I decided that I need to get organized, so on December 30th after tucking Lil Money off to bed I got after it. First I straightened up my book shelf and sorted my pocket squares into a nice box. That was easy. Next I hit the closet like a crash test dummy at the collision testing facility… I hit it hard, it was messy but the results were necessary and positive.

Here’s the breakdown of the shakedown.

-6 Blue (Variations)
-1 Tie Die (Yeah, and what? I’m from Austin, I don’t care who you are, it’s pretty much mandatory.)
-3 Gray (Variations)
-3 Orange (Variations)
-4 White
-1 Purple
-4 Yellow (Variations)
-4 Red
-1 Maroon
-8 Black
-7 Green (Variations)
-3 Tan
-5 Brown (Variations)

Looks like I need to have an Ebay sale or something; I knew my closet was packed but I never realized it was this out of hand. And like I mentioned before I still have quite a bit still hanging around. Although, those are on ”tryouts” right now during the “off-season”… If I don’t wear them around the house chances are I won’t wear them around town. We’ll see how it goes, I’m not a hoarder but I don’t really want to get rid of these T’s, I’d like to give some to Lil Money at some point.

But, when I think about it, if I sell all 50 for only $2.00 that’s easily $100.00… I think I’ll start the bidding at $5.00 though. Again, we’ll see.

Check out the madness that was the method.

I Wanna Be Shot...

... by The Sartorialist. I've been following his blog for a while now and love the shots that he takes. People at work or just out and about. His blog is like people watching but instead of a crowded place it's right there in front of you on your 21 inch screen. What I like most about the blog is the sense of style that you're awarded from the various shots of different people.

Hopefully some random day he'll catch me and shoot me. That would be top notch.

Get Square

Wow, these are some of the coolest pocket squares I've ever seen, the use of buttons is pretty word... The price point is beyond me but I'd love to have one (or two, or three, etc.). Maybe I just need to step up and start creating my own, I've actually got a few ideas I haven't seen anywhere else.

"Here's to you Mr. Overly Christmas, Christmas Guy"

... At least, that's what The Wife said.

Return of the Cool

Out of no where the cool has returned. I jumped in the ride and pulled out of the garage, rolled the windows down to enjoy a cool morning on my way to work. Whew! I was bit shocked when the cool breeze hit my skin, I wasn't expecting this at all. But I do welcome the return of the cool, enjoy your stay my friend. Summer, she's always fun with her frisky ways in finding ways to undress me but Autumn, she appreciates a little more TLC and the warmth of a cuddle.

If I had it my way... Today, my kit would look somehting like this. Cool.

A cool 18

Watching a little golf this weekend and I saw this guy wearing some awesome herringbone pants and I said... "If I was a golfer I would dress like that, I'd probably even wear some knicker." So I put a kit together.
