Repost: An Independent "Consortium" for Football

Here's a great idea posted by Jim Small from GO IRISH BLOG. I was actually having a conversation this weekend about several schools I could see going independent within the next few years, so this post is timely. Check it out.

An Independent "Consortium" for Football

Here's an idea I'd like to float by the Athletic Directors of the following eight schools: Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, BYU, Miami, Navy and Army -- and the top executives at NBC and Fox. FYI: We launch this in 2015:

The creation of the Consortium of Football Independents (CFI) -- a group of eight college football programs (all independent) that cover each time zone and every top high school recruiting hotbed in the country. The aforementioned eight schools would have an "allegiance" that would call for the following:

1. They would agree to schedule each other -- on a home and home basis -- every year.

2. They would agree to negotiate their own individual TV contracts with either NBC or FOX -- keeping 100 % of their own revenue.

3. They would all agree to schedule a "13th" game each year -- a CFI Championship Weekend -- a three day celebration of college football where all eight teams would play. On Friday night, the #8 and #7 ranked teams in the CFI would play each other. On Saturday at 1 PM, the #6 and #5 ranked teams would play each other. At 8 PM the #4 and #3 ranked teams would play each other and then on Sunday evening, the CFI Championship game would pit the #2 and #1 ranked teams.

4. The revenue generated from the CFI Championship Weekend would be the only revenue the eight schools would ever share in this consortium. This would become the greatest single collection of games ever in the same city, same facility -- over a 48 hour period -- in the history of sport in America! Imagine the "rights fees" the CFI could generate from the host city and NBC/FOX. It would be a bigger "get" than the SUPER BOWL or FINAL FOUR for any US town!

5. Now, if the NCAA wouldn't allow all eight teams to play a 13th game then I'd ask each of the eight schools to play their "rivalry" game on Thanksgiving Weekend -- in the same town, same facility and over the same three day schedule. (See the proposed "rivalry" game schedule below) Please note: The Texas/Oklahoma and ND/USC games would rotate each year from Saturday night to Sunday night if we weren't playing a 13th game. In this scenario - each of the teams would keep the revenue generated from their specific game -- negotiating their own revenue share with their opponent -- and there would be a revenue share amongst all eight schools on any "over arching" deals that might be packaged for the four game weekend.

6. The CFI would also negotiate an automatic berth in the BCS for the winner (or highest ranked team) and would also secure Bowl deals with the following bowls: Gator, Cotton, Capital One and Hawaii.

7. Each of the eight teams would keep "100%" of the revenue they generate from earning a spot in a bowl game.

8. The CFI would also establish their own officiating crews -- to handle their games.

Can you imagine a football weekend with the following games in the same city, same facility, same weekend?:
- Friday night at 8PM -- Army vs. Navy
- Saturday at 1 PM -- Miami vs. BYU
- Saturday at 8 PM -- Oklahoma vs. Texas
- Sunday at 8 PM -- Notre Dame vs. USC

The bottom line here is this -- overnight the CFI would become the most powerful voice in college football.

Music Monday: Caca EP

Today's Music Monday post, Caca EP, is for my older sister. Each of the tracks are tied to memories I have of her or with her, whether she knows it or not.

Come out and Play (Keep'em Separated): I was in my last year of middle school and knew it all when I first heard this song, didn't think much of it all either. I was spending the day with my sister when we met up with one of her friends and her friend's younger brother, I don't remember where we were headed but this song came on in the car and they both said hey guys listen to this... We did and, yeah it sucked ass (I was strictly Rap & R&B at the time), they told us how it was about young people and how they could pretty much do anything without any consequences. I didn't like the song then, but I grew up, opened my mind and now when it comes on, it jams.

1979: I chose this song because I've pretty much always liked it. But I also chose this song because of the album, Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, I remember seeing the cover art in her room and just being hypnotized by it, I didn't understand it but I liked it. And now as an adult I own it. [Official Video]

Buddy Holly: C'mon, this is Weezer, this is Buddy Holly, this is Happy Days. I first saw this video when my sister yelled out to me to come see... And wow, I was amazed at what I saw, a current band playing the stage at Al's, it doesn't get any better than that. Or so I thought, because it got better when The Fonz busted out his dance moves.

Strange Overtones: I don't use names in my blogs so, Caca do you remember a conversation we had many minutes ago, when I had dreams of being a singer-songwriter? Well I said I wanted to write a song that paralleled music and love, I started writing it, but lost the spiral I had it in and each time I tried again, I just couldn't get it. Well, if I were a skilled singer-songwriter, this is the song I would have written. Enjoy.

DAMN, this is some dopesauce!

Is it possible to have too many posts in one day? Look at me and ask me if I care... I try to keep it fresh with blogworthy posts and I also try to keep in mind the kind of things I dig and would like to see from other blogs. With that said, enjoy...

Red Rivalry River Preview

For the past 3 season's the focus of the Red River Rivalry has been on the quarterbacks, Texas' Colt McCoy and Oklahoma's Sam Bradford. For good reason too, Colt holds the record for most games won as a quarterback in NCAA history and Bradford is a proven Heisman quarterback. This seasons game will definitely be different.

Check out ESPN.com's Film Room with Todd McShay for a preview.

HOOK'EM!

COMMING SOON: Music Mondays

It seems as though a lot of blogs out there have their, what I call "Assignment Posts". These are the posts where they do 10 for Tuesday or Photo Friday or something to that effect, so I figured what the hell, mine will be Music Mondays. Each week's "assignment" will be different but in tune with music (Of any genre), maybe it will be a single track that's got my attention or a full on mix, I don't really know at this point, I'm just gonna go with the flow.

But! Stay tuned because I've already got next week's post ready, titled Caca EP.

Here's an UNKNOWN track that I came across early this summer. I dig it and really wish I knew who this is and what the title of the track is but I don't. At least it's out there for me to chill to, but if you've got any information on this, please hit me up. Until next time, enjoy.

RIP Greg Giraldo

A hilarious comedian and expert roaster, Greg Giraldo will be missed in the comedy community, My thoughts are with his friends and family. He died Wednesday, September 29th, 2010, he was 44 years old.

I can't remember when, but I know it was many years ago when I first heard his bit, Underwear Goes Inside The Pants. A witty and comical take on the state of the nation. from that moment I was a fan. Then I saw how raw and unrelenting he was during roasts, his style was killer with an arsenal of jokes a cut-downs.
